Activities organised for Thai Children on National Children's Day

BANGKOK, Jan 8 (TNA) - Various public and private agencies across Thailand have organised activities and events for children to mark the National Children's Day on Saturday (Jan 8).

At Government House in Bangkok, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva personally welcomed several groups of children and allowed the young visitors to sit on his chair and pose for photographs at his office from 8:30am-3:30pm. Over 50 youths were also trained as "small rangers" or "young security guards" at the government seat, specially, for today.

Children also crowded other venues in the capital, including a cargo terminal at the Don Muang Airport where an exhibition of aircraft, jet fighters and parachute show was organised, the Ministry of Defence headquarters and the Royal Thai Armed Forces' sites--where helicopters, armoured vehicles, military tanks, warships, cannons and other military supplies were on display to welcome the young visitors. Children also thronged Dusit Zoo and royally-initiated projects to celebrate the National Children's Day.

Activities were organised as well at various welfare houses for the disabled and other underprivileged children in Bangkok. Children in provincial areas also enjoyed activities marking the National Children's Day in their respective areas.

The National Children's Day in Thailand falls on the second Saturday in January of each year. (TNA)
