Pakistani analyst welcomes Iran’s nuclear initiative

Islamabad, Jan 8, IRNA -- A senior Pakistani analyst on Friday welcomed Iran’s move to invite ambassadors and representatives of several countries to visit its nuclear facilities.

Talking to IRNA Shahidur Rehman, however, doubted any change in the U.S. and western countries approach towards Iran’s nuclear issue irrespective of Iran’s move.
“U.S. has adopted a rigged position on Iran’s nuclear issue”, said the analyst.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has said the recent move by Islamic Republic is in line with the country’s previous measures regarding its transparent and peaceful nuclear activities.

'The representatives of some European Union countries, NAM (Non-Aligned Movement), and some representatives of the five-plus-one have been invited to visit our nuclear sites,' Foreign Ministry Spokesman further said.

Shahidur Rehman, expressing his views on Iran’s initiative said that the move would help in educating world nations about Iran’s nuclear activities as previously all news on Iran’s nuclear program are coming through western media.

The analyst remarked that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) has presented about 32 investigative reports over Iran’s nuclear program and could not find single evidence against peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

The European Union has acknowledged receipt of Iran's invitation to send representatives accredited to the International Atomic Energy Agency to see its nuclear sites.

'We can confirm receipt of the letter by our ambassador to the IAEA ...,' a spokesman for the European Commission was quoted as saying in Brussels.

Non-aligned countries have been supportive towards Iran’s peaceful nuclear program but the U.S. and some European countries have adopted very rigid position against Iran asking the Islamic Republic to rollback its nuclear enrichment program”, said the analyst.

He added that West has to understand that Iran will not bow down to any kind of western pressure over its nuclear program.

Shahidur Rehman is a senior journalist and security analyst. He has also written a book about Pakistan’s nuclear program “Long Road to Chaghai’ in 1999./end
