EU proposes Munich as venue for Mideast Quartet meeting

Berlin, Jan 8, IRNA -- The European Union said Munich could be the venue for a meeting of the Mideast Quartet comprised of the EU, UN, Russia and the US, the German Press Agency dpa reported from Brussels on Friday.
The Mideast Quartet could meet on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, scheduled to be held in the southern German city from February 4 through 6, a spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton was quoted saying.
'We believe this would be a good opportunity,' she added.
This would mean that the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov would have to travel to Munich for such a meeting of the Quartet.
Lavrov is also slated to attend the Munich security meeting.
The talks are aimed at last-ditch efforts to jump-start Mideast peace talks which have stalled over the highly controversial settlement policies of the Zionist regime./end
