ICRC to clarify fate of ex-Dy Min of Defense
Tehran, Jan 8, IRNA – Pierre Ryter, the ICRC's head of mission in Iran, says ICRC will do its best to clarify fate of Iranian national Ali-Reza Asgari, who was kidnapped in Turkey in 2006 by the Zionist agents.
Ryter made the remark in an interview with IRNA in reaction to Foreign Ministry caretaker Ali-Akbar Salehi's letter to the effect, which was offered to Christine Beerli, Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) by Iran's permanent envoy to Geneva on Thursday.
Asked why the ICRC has taken no action in connection with Iranian nationals' abduction by Zionist regime of Israel and US espionage agents since about four years ago, Ryter said the ICRC puts data and recommendations on prisoners or on result of search for the disappeared persons only at the disposal of related officials.
He said the ICRC also helps the prisoners and their families maintain contact through exchange of short family messages.
Asked what the ICRC would do in connection with transfer of Asgari's body if reports on his martyrdom is true, Ryter said the ICRC would use all possible means for transfer of his body upon receipt of demand on the issue.
The ICRC has always been caring family of the lost persons once having access to necessary information on their beloved one's fate, he noted.
Also to a question about the Zionist media claims that Asgari had committed suicide, he said as a general rule, the ICRC never puts information on prison or reports on such issues as arrest or disappearance of a person at the disposal of the public. Rather, he added, the ICRC follows up such cases with related officials in the form of mutual dialogue.
Asked whether the ICRC had received any demand from Asgari's family, he said the ICRC is well aware of suffering of the families of the disappeared persons and would concentrate all its efforts on helping them find out realities.
Isn't the Zionist regime's move in connection with Asgari a clear example of state terrorism, asked IRNA from the ICRC official, who answered the ICRC is a merely humanitarian organization, dealing with consequences of events and of the pain caused as a result./end
