More floods and landslides to hit Thai South
BANGKOK, Jan 7 (TNA) - Thailand’s Mineral Resources Department issued a new warning on Friday (Jan 7) of possible flash-floods and landslides to hit the country's southern provinces of Yala, Trung, Phattalung and Songkhla over the next couple of days.
The ministry's Earthquake Monitoring Operations Centre forecast that downpours of more than 200 millilitres would hit Yala’s Betong District, Trang’s Nayong District, Phattalung’s Sribanpot and Srinakarin Districts and Songkhla’s Saba Yoi and Singha Nakhon Districts over the next few days. The centre suggested evacuations of local residents in the affected areas should the rainfalls reach 300 millilitres.
Meanwhile, Mineral Resources Department Inspector General Apichart Surinkham reported that Thailand’s southern region has been hit by 25 flash floods and landslides since June 2010. (TNA)
