Thailand expanding poultry exports to Egypt and Africa

BANGKOK, Jan 7 (TNA) - Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development, together with the Department of Export Promotion and the Central Islamic Committee’s Halal Affairs Office, will welcome a visit to the Kingdom by Egyptian livestock authorities for an inspection of the country's poultry production processes and standards--before opening the Egyptian market for the Thai product.

Preecha Somboonprasert, Director-General of the Thai Livestock Development Department, said on Friday (Jan 7) that Egyptian livestock officials are scheduled to visit Thailand from January 8-15--during which they will inspect a chicken farm and two slaughterhouses on a random basis.

Preecha acknowledged that the Thai livestock authorities will then give presentations on Thailand's established systems of full-circled checking and verifying quality and standards of Thai poultry, including measures against avian flu.

Preecha revealed that the Egyptian delegation will also pay a courtesy call on the Thai Export Promotion Department chief and the chairman of the Central Islamic Committee’s Halal Affairs Office, as well as visit the National Institute of Animal Health in Bangkok and the Thai Livestock Products Inspection Bureau's laboratory in adjacent Pathum Thani Province.

According to the senior Thai official, the opportunity will boost confidence in Thai poultry products, leading to expanding Thai poultry exports to Egypt and other North African countries, namely Morocco, Algeria and Tunesia. (TNA)
