.Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Nativity of Christ.
MOSCOW, January 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Orthodoxy celebrates one of
the most important Church holidays, the Nativity of Jesus Christ on
January 7.
According to the traditions of Orthodox believers, Patriarch of Moscow
and All Russia Kirill has sent his Christmas greetings.
"Dear brothers and sisters, on the Christmas holiday we should think
about how much this day means to all of humanity and to each of us. From
time immemorial, people have been seeking answers to questions about the
meaning of life, about salvation, about finding hope. And the birth of
Christ unveils to us the Divine truth. Christ is the very meaning of life,
the salvation and hope for all people and for every person individually,"
said Patriarch said.
"The Greek word "liturgy", which refers to the key church service,
means "collective work". Our entire life must become a liturgy -
collective prayer and collective work to let God's purpose for the world
and for the person come to life. This requires our solidarity with our
brothers and sisters in faith, and also with those who don't yet have God
in their hearts, but like the Evangelical Magi, are on their way," the
Patriarch said.
"We, as Christians, believe and know that through Christ, God truly
entered human history and our life, calling upon people to live by His
law, affirming peace, love and truth," Patriarch Kirill concluded.
Divine services are being held at all Russian Orthodox churches across
the globe. The Russian Orthodox Church has about 30,000 churches and more
than 800 monasteries in 60 countries.
January 7 is celebrated by the Serbian and Georgian Churches, the
Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem and the Church of Mount Athos.
