Severe storms threaten flooded Queensland
Already inundated parts of central Queensland are facing severe thunderstorms, the
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned.
The severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall,
flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours, BOM says.
The storms are threatening parts of the Central Coast and Whitsunday Islands, the
Central Highlands and Coalfields, and Capricornia districts.
Locations which may be affected include Rockhampton, Clermont, Yeppoon and Moranbah.
A separate but equally severe storm system is threatening to wreak similar havoc
further north.
The Peninsula, Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts are in the firing
line, with communities at Port Douglas, Mareeba, Cooktown and Daintree Village
possibly affected.
