Trial finishes for three out of seven Thai detainees in Phnom Penh

BANGKOK, Jan 6 (TNA) - A Cambodian court has finished its questioning of three out of seven Thai detainees in Cambodia charged with illegal entry into the Cambodian territory, including a Democrat MP Panich Vikitsreth and two other women in his team.

Chavanont Intarakomalsut, Secretary to Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya reported the updated development Thursday afternoon (Jan 6), saying that he did not expect the Phnom Penh court to deliver any verdict later today as office hours in Cambodia are running out.

There will be a long holiday in Cambodia, starting from tomorrow, so Chavanont said when the Cambodian court would hand down its verdicts against the seven Thai detainees has not yet known.

The seven Thai nationals, including Veera Somkwamkid, a leading activist of the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), were arrested by Cambodian border troops for intruding onto the Cambodian soil on December 29. They were taken from Prey Sor Prison in Phnom Penh to the court this morning when the judicial trial of the Thai defendants began. The court has questioned the Thai defendants individually. (TNA)
