Digger shot in the arm in Afghanistan

An Australian soldier has been shot in the arm while on patrol in Afghanistan.
Defence says the digger was working alongside the Afghan national army in the Chorah
Valley region of Uruzgan on Tuesday morning when his patrol was attacked with small
arms fire.
"The patrol returned fire, with mortar support, and stabilised the wounded soldier
prior to his aero medical evacuation to Tarin Kot," Defence said in a statement.
The soldier, from Australia's Mentoring Task Force, was wounded by "a single shot in
the upper left arm".
He's now in a satisfactory condition.
Defence said a man believed to be an insurgent was wounded in the leg during the
incident.
He was also treated by the patrol before being flown to the multinational medical
facility at Tarin Kot for further treatment.
"The engagement will be investigated to confirm the status of the local man,"
Defence said.
The digger is the first Australian soldier to be wounded in Afghanistan this year.
Some 165 soldiers have been wounded since operations began in 2001.
Twenty-one diggers have died during the conflict.
