IRNA chief remembers his meeting with late Salman Tathir

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA – Presidential Press Advisor and IRNA Chief Ali Akbar Javanfekr visited Islamabad less than two weeks ago to meet with a number of Pakistani officials, including Punjab Governor (late) Salman Tathir, who was assassinated on Tuesday morning.

Concerning the meeting, Javanfekr told IRNA that it was Saturday December 25, 2010 when accompanied by Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan Shakeri, he met with Governor of Punjab Mr. Salman Tathir.

The provincial official was a member of ruling party (Pakistan Peoples Party), while local government was in the hands of Pakistan Muslim League in Lahore, capital of Punjab province.

According to the news, Salman Tathir was killed by one of his body guards on Tuesday January 4, 2011.

'The late governor was a sympathetic and sincere person, who expressed his memories from a trip to Iran and, by condemning terrorism, underlined necessity of cooperation with Iran to fight against criminals,' Javanfekr added.

Tathir said that development of ties with Iran, both in federal and provincial levels, is the aim of all Pakistani senior officials.
He underscored that increasing cultural and media cooperation between the two countries is a suitable ground for expansion of mutual ties in other fields, the presidential advisor said.

Tathir also promised that he would offer all kinds of cooperation to Iran to start shooting a movie about life of Pakistani renowned poet and philosopher Iqbal Lahori.

Javanfekr said that the late Punjab governor presented a gift to commemorate the meeting and then showed his guests his working palace, a building more than 130 years old, and finally saw off the Iranian delegation.

The presidential press advisor condoled with Pakistan government and nation, especially people of Punjab province and wished blessing for the late governor./end
