Foreign Ministry: Asgari's case pursued through Int'l Red Crescent Society
Tehran, Jan 4, IRNA – Caretaker of IRI Foreign Ministry in a letter to Head of International Red Crescent Society Jacob Kellenberger expressed worry about news published lately on fate of Ali-Reza Asgari, asking IRCS to pursue the matter.
According to IRNA Monday Night Service, Ali-Akbar Salehi has in his letter, a copy of which was faxed to IRNA, referred to the invaluable role played by the IRCS in pursuing the matters of humanitarian importance, pointing out that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always noticed this point.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Ministry of Foreign Affairs caretaker has in his letter emphasized that kidnapping Asgari is in addition to being an obvious violation of the international regulations, been of humanitarian dimensions as well, reiterating, 'We expect the International Red Crescent and Red Cross Society to make a serious effort resorting to the facilities at its disposal to clarify the status of the aforementioned person.'
Salehi has in the letter also pointed out that ever since the beginning there were news and evidences that the kidnapping of Ali-Reza Asgari – a former IRI official – was conducted by the Mossad and the CIA, reiterating that the method of kidnapping him at Istanbul's Jeyran Hotel and the news dispatched recently by Zionist media on his status further strengthen those speculations.
In related news, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Ala'eddin Boroujerdi stated Monday that the Foreign Ministry is pursuing the return of the 'body' of Ali-Reza Asgari to Iran through the International Red Cross.
Boroujerdi said that the Interim Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi is officially pursuing the case through the IRC.
The MP said in a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Salehi sought the return of Asgari’s body.
According to a report published last Tuesday in some Israeli media, Asgari has died in an Israeli prison.
Iran has said if the news of Asgari’s death is true he must have been killed under a torture by Mossad agents.
Asgari was abducted by Mossad agents in Turkey on December 9, 2006. Boroujerdi added that Iran expects Turkey to identify abductors and release their names.
Although the Zionist media outlets previously claimed that Asgari defected to the West and was granted asylum in a Western country, some Zionist sources announced on Tuesday that Asgari had committed suicide.
However, Boroujerdi told reporters on Sunday that the report that Asgari has committed suicide is a intended to divert public opinion.
