New Year in Thailand's Si Sa Ket soars with Preah Vihear visitors today over 2,000

BANGKOK, January 1 (TNA) - Foreign and Thai tourists have amassed Preah Vihear National Park at Thai Si Sa Ket province on Saturday (Jan 1) to enjoy the local forests atop the astounding Mor E-Daeng Cliff and Phu Pha Mok misty hilltops.

Preah Vihear National Park authorities acknowledged some 2,000 park visitors have come from all-over Thailand today, and said that both tourists and convenience stores have been prohibited from carrying and selling alcoholic drinks within the compound, according to the policy from Thai Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation of ‘Alcohol-free National Parks’, adding however that depository spots have become available for those unaware, who may have their drinks returned upon exit.

Meanwhile, as the year of the Rabbit counts its first day, Si Sa Ket’s Sa-Ngum permanent border crossing at Phu-Singh district have met an outburst of 1,000 Thai tourists crossing over to the Cambodian market for shopping and neighbouring, albeit the recent arrest of a Thai MP and his entourage by Cambodian soldiers. Locals say they believe governments of both countries will eventually settle the issue by peaceful means.

In Betong district of the far-south Yala province, over 1,000 state authorities, soldiers, police officers and the local public, have gathered for a morning Buddhist alms-giving ceremony as a greeting to the dawn of a brand new year. While last night’s New Year Eve countdown in front of Betong Plaza saw thousands of tourists shouting the first moments of the new year as thousands of fireworks were shot into the air, amid tight security measures and surveillance.
