Report on Rigi’s arrest, correct: Pakistani editor

Islamabad, Jan 1, IRNA - Editor of a leading Pakistani newspaper on Friday said that report about the arrest of Jundallah leader Abdulrauf Rigi is correct because Pakistan Foreign Office has not denied the report yet.
Talking to IRNA Mohammad Malick editor of the English daily ‘The News’ added that Pakistan government has many reasons for delaying the disclosure of Rigi’s arrest.
“May be they want to arrest more people” he opined.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit earlier had refused to comment on media reports about the arrest of Jundallah leader Abdulrauf Rigi by Pakistani security forces.
According to The News, Abdul Rauf Rigi, brother and successor of the executed Abdolmalik Rigi, was tracked down by Pakistani authorities through his wireless set while he was making a call on December 21 to a London-based newspaper from his Pak-Iran border area hideout in Balochistan region.
The report said Pakistani intelligence agencies made frantic efforts to track down Rigi, especially after the December 15 killing of 40 people in a deadly suicide bombing in the Iranian city of Chabahar. Jundullah has already claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mohammad Malick, expressing his views, said that things are not simple in Balochistan and it would be definitely a matter of great concern for Pakistan if some terrorist group is operating on ‘our side’.
He said the government of Pakistan has not categorically denied the news regarding the arrest of Jundullah leader.
“We have to see that who is supporting that group as in Balochistan there is also terrorism against the Pakistan government so I believe that our intelligence agencies must be working on this point also”, said the editor.
He said that if President of Iran has thanked ‘our government so the news of Rigi’s arrest must have been conveyed to him at a higher level’.
“You cannot say that the news regarding the arrest of Rigi is incorrect”, he said.
Mohammad Malick added that ‘every time you catch a terrorist you save both the people and the world’.
“Why should innocent people die”, he asked. “We have no sympathies for terrorists and the arrest of Rigi is a very good development”, said the senior journalist.
Jundullah former leader Abdolmalek Rigi was arrested by Iranian intelligence forces in February 2010 and executed in June for crimes, including armed robbery, bombing operations and armed attacks on police and civilians.
Jundallah, which has operated in Iran's Sistan-Balochistan and Pakistan's Balochistan provinces, has carried out several attacks against ordinary Iranian citizens as well as government and security officers.
It is widely known that the terrorist group is supported, armed and funded by the US intelligence agencies./end
