Sydney in full swing for New Year`s

New Year fever was in full swing long before the glorious Sydney sun went down as
thousands jostled for the best vantage points ahead of the "biggest party on Earth".
Security staff around the Opera House said crowd numbers were unprecedented and they
had been forced to turn new arrivals away from 3pm - more than an hour earlier than
last year.
Bars, pubs, clubs and one of the city's most exclusive cocktail parties also said
they had sold out thanks to the balmy weather.
Among the thousands of revellers who had set up camp in the early hours to take in
the impressive views of the fireworks was 26-year-old Marcio Motta, from Sao Paulo.
"We know how to party on New Year back home but Sydney is a bigger and better party
than anywhere else," he said before the fireworks got underway.
"I am studying English over here but tonight was always going to be the highlight.
"We have been waiting here by the harbour since 6am."
Richard Luksic, operations manager for Opera House security firm ACG, said crowds
were significantly bigger than last year due to the sweltering weather.
"Despite the heat, everyone is behaving beautifully so far," he said.
"We have not had to throw anyone out and we had to close everything off by 3pm which
shows just how popular this event has become.
"We filled to capacity a good hour earlier than last year, which is great for us all
as everyone can settle down and have a good time."
