New Year spells ‘Hustle-Bustle’ in Thailand

BANGKOK, Dec 31 (TNA) - Thai New Year celebrations have charmed foreign and domestic travellers as they flock across the country to the pinnacle of tonight’s countdown celebrations.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand earlier projected that favourable factors which have supported the recovering Thai tourism industry—including well-prepared public transport systems, relieving political conditions in the country and the promotion of winter-attractive tourist sites—has contributed to the expected 1.59 million number of travellers from 31 December 2010 to 3 January 2011, with 190,000 of them as foreign tourists, generating tourism-related revenues of some 3.85 billion baht.
Among the latest New Year Festival destinations include Thailand’s northern Chiang Mai City and its blooming Tulip garden at the 80th Anniversary Royal Commemoration Park, atop the peaking Doi Suthep; the appalling Emerald Beach at Krabi’s seaside, famous for its greenish crystal-like water springs; north-eastern Udonthani province with live concerts from Thai, Lao and Vietnamese artists, human-wave propagations, and a stunning 2011 shots of fireworks into the night; while Bangkok Buddhist supporters have mainly travelled to Buddhist temples for merit-making before concluding the year with a midnight candle-lit prayer ceremony.
