Thai Public Health Ministry reinforces nationwide services for New Year’s Eve

BANGKOK, Dec 31 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Public Health will maximise its highway health personnel and services today as means of responding to road accidents expected to peak on New Year’s Eve.

Deputy Minister for Public Health Panasiri Kulanatsiri said on Thursday (Dec 30) her ministry forecasts more travellers will take to the road today as they return to their hometowns across Thailand for the family New Year countdown.

Panasiri said her ministry has reinforced a two-way strategy to cope with the predicted casualty rates, namely in stationing health personnel at highway rest points (also called highway service spots) and in facilitating a 24-hour crisis centre capable of dispatching emergency rescue teams from over 7,860 units country-wide.

Panasiri assured that 875 hospitals around the country have now twice the number medical personnel on stand-by, together with ambulances, blood reserves, ICU and medical operation facilities, stationed for emergency services. (TNA)
