MALAYSIA, INDONESIA PLAN JOINT PROGRAMMES IN INFO DISSEMINATION

JAKARTA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Indonesia will undertake two joint programmes from this week to pave the way for a wider cooperation in information dissemination.
Malaysia's Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the programmes
were a weekly news programme called "Warta Serumpun" and a photo and image
exhibition on the independence of both countries.
"Preparations for the two programmes are underway. In the long run, it will
enhance information dissemination between the two countries for the benefit of
the people.
"More importantly, it shows the confidence in each other and the high-level
of friendliness between the two countries which pave the way for this wider
cooperation," he told reporters after meeting his Indonesian counterpart,
Muhammad Nuh, here Monday.
The photo exhibition involving Bernama and Information Department of
Malaysia and Indonesia's news agency Antara and Communication and Information
Ministry, will be held in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur simultenously from Aug 15 to
Sept 1.
Warta Serumpun which involves Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Televisi
Republik Indonesia (TVRI), will be aired every Sunday from Aug 17 at midnight in
conjunction with Indonesia's Independence Day.
Shabery said the programme would begin with a special message by Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, followed by news and current affairs
on both countries.
"The Information Ministry's senior officers have been here since Wednesday
to ensure smooth running of the programmes," he said in a dinner with TVRI
management and senior officers last night.
Shabery who is here for a two-day visit, also visited Indonesia's latest
television station, TV One, and appeared on two television interviews, on Sunday
and Monday, before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
TV One deputy director Nurjaman told reporters that his station was ready
to hold joint shows and other cooperation with RTM especially since it had
already opened an office in Kuala Lumpur to ensure news on Malaysia could also
be shown in Indonesia.
