Seven Thais detained in Cambodia

BANGKOK, Dec 29 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that seven Thai nationals, including a Democrat MP and a yellow-shirt core leader, were arrested in Cambodia earlier on Wednesday (Dec 29) and have been detained in the neighbouring country.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said that the Thai government is sending representatives to hold talks with Cambodian authorities to seek for the release of the seven Thai people, including Panich Vikitsreth, the Democrat MP and former Bangkok deputy governor, and Veera Somkwamkid, the yellow-clad core activist.

Kasit reported that the seven Thai nationals travelled to a border area in Thailand's eastern Sa Kaeo Province and were captured by the Cambodian military. Kasit said that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has been informed of the incident.

Sa Kaeo's police said, however, that the seven Thais were unharmed and a group of Thai security officers have travelled to Cambodia to seek for their release. Recently, Phnom Penh released three Thai villagers who were alleged to have intruded into the Cambodian territory. (TNA)
