Iran Foreign Ministry reacts to Egyptian FM’s remark

Tehran, Dec 29, IRNA – An Iranian Foreign Ministry official stressed that Iran was the initiator of the idea of a Middle East free from nuclear arms.

The official made the remark in reaction to the recent remarks by the Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit during the 7th meeting of Egypt’s ruling party.

He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran not only put forward the idea of the Middle East without nuclear arms but was the initiator of the idea of a world free from nuclear arms and weapons of mass destruction.

He said the Egyptian foreign minister should be aware of the fact that the real danger threatening the interests of the regional states and nations was the possession of over 2,000 nuclear warheads by the Zionist regime which is under no international control and monitoring system.

He reiterated that comparing Iran’s peaceful nuclear programs with the Zionist regime's atomic activities is totally irrational and out of logic.

The official further reminded that the motto of the international conference on nuclear disarmament held in Tehran was “nuclear energy for all, nuclear arms for none”./end
