Iran envoy confers with former Lebanese PM, FM

Beirut, Dec 29, IRNA – Iran's ambassador in Beirut separately conferred with Lebanese former Prime Minister Omar Karami and former Foreign Minister Ali al-Shami here on Tuesday.
Ghazanfar Roknabadi in a meeting with Ali al-Shami discussed bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.
After the meeting, Roknabadi said that the latest regional events as well as bilateral relations between Iran and Lebanon, implementation and follow-up of signed agreements between the two sides in the recent visits of Iran's president to Beirut and Lebanese prime minister to Tehran were discussed.
Concerning Iran's stance on Saudi Arabian and Syrian efforts in direction of solving current Lebanon crisis, the ambassador said Iran wishes good things for Lebanon.
In the meeting with Omar Karami, the latest developments in bilateral ties as well as international and regional situation were discussed.
Karami expressed pleasure with expansion of relations between the two countries and called President Ahmadinejad's visit to Lebanon 'very successful'.
The Iranian ambassador, for his part, explained the latest nuclear developments in Iran and talked about results of Geneva meeting.
Roknabadi, after meeting with former Lebanese prime minister, said that Iran has always agreed with finding late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri assassination agents without political games.
Referring to statements of US politician John Bolton concerning Hezbollah and Syria role in Hariri assassination, Roknabadi said that such statements indicate the US is not a well wisher for Lebanon and region.
Omar Karami, by referring to the efforts of Saudi Arabia and Syria to solve current Lebanon crisis, said that signs indicated that final phases of the efforts are close and to this end Saad Hariri is paying a visit to New York, now.
Concerning Bolton's statements, Karami said that public opinion in Arab world and in the region believe that international court considering Hariri Assassination is an Israeli and political court and John Bolton, himself is an Israeli./end
