Monument established for Thailand's artificial rain pioneer

BANGKOK, Dec 28 (TNA) - Thailand’s Bureau of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation has established a new monument for M.R. Debriddhi Devakul, the pioneer of artificial rainmaking in the Kingdom and the representation of Thailand's successful artificial rainmaking project under the initiation and patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Bureau of the Royal Household Vice Chamberlain Distorn Vajarodaya presided over a ceremony to open the newly- raised M.R. Debriddhi Devakul Monument in Bangkok on Tuesday (Dec 28)--during which an event to pay tribute to the first Thai artifician rainmaking developer was also included.

His Majesty the King assigned M.R. Debriddhi to carry on further research and experiments on artifician rain under the royally-initiated project and in July 1969, the senior Thai engineer led his team of artifician rainmakers for the Kingdom's historic cloud seeding operation on the sky above Khao Yai National Park--in which dry-ice was dispersed on to the clouds, triggering the so-called "Hamburger Effect" and within moments then came Thailand’s first ever man-made rainfalls.

Renowned late M.R. Debriddhi Devakul graduated in agricultural engineering and also specialised in the invention of farming machines, namely tractors, rice threshers, rice millers, and the practical design of factories and cold storage rooms.

M.R. Debriddhi had dedicated himself for the development of Thailand's royally-initiated artificial rainmaking operations until he passed away on November 12, 1984. (TNA)
