Russia, China to cooperate in HPP Toachi Pilaton project in Ecuador.
BOGOTA, December 28 (Itar-Tass) -- The Ecuadorian state-run company
HIDROTOAPI EP and China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE)
have signed an agreement in Quito on works on the Toachi Pilaton
hydroelectric project in Ecuador.
Earlier, Russia's Inter RAO UES contracted to supply hydropower
equipment worth 123 million U.S. dollars.
"This is Latin America's first economic cooperation project that pools
the possibilities of Russia and China," a source in the Russian embassy in
Ecuador told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. "This project lays the basis for
Russian-Chinese cooperation in third countries in such a strategically
important area as electricity generation."
"Supplies of Russian-made machines and equipment will be financed
through Roseximbank loans," the source said. "Inter RAO UES will supply
equipment and execute turn-key electro-and hydro-mechanical work on a
draft set of HPP Toachi Pilaton with an installed capacity of 252 MW."
Earlier, Russian ambassador to Ecuador Yan Burlyai said that Inter RAO
UEAS was ready to start performing its contract undertakings early in 2011.
