Relatives demand quick investigation into a nurse’s death during Bangkok protest

BANGKOK, Dec 28 (TNA) - The mother of a volunteer nurse who was found dead at Wat Pathum Wanaram temple in central Bangkok during the crackdown of a red shirt protest sent her letter to the national police chief to demand the result of police investigation into the death within 15 days.

Mrs Phayao Akhad , the mother of Miss Kanokked Akhad who was a volunteer nurse and was among six persons found dead at Wat Pathum Wanaram temple in Bangkok last May sent her letter to national police chief Police General Wichean Potphosree through police spokesman Police Major General Prawut Thawornsiri.

In the letter, Mrs Phayao asks the national police chief to speed up investigation into the death of her daughter as the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) already sent its investigation report on the case to the Royal Thai Police Office for conclusion.

Mrs Phayao feels that the investigation made no progress while the police was handling it. She wonders if the police are delaying the process and do not plan to forward the case to the court.

Mrs Phayao demanded the police finish the investigation and send the case to the court within 15 days; otherwise, she will ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to take actions against the national police chief and concerned officers for dereliction of duty.

Clashes between government officials and red shirt protesters last April and May killed at least 90 people, most of whom were civilians, and injured over 1,800 people. (TNA)
