Envoy: Iran-Syria, two pillars of resistance in region

Damascus, Dec 28, IRNA -- Under Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council for Foreign Affairs, Ali Bagheri, said on Monday that Iran and Syria are the major pillars of resistance to Israeli occupation in the Middle East region.

Bagheri made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.

Resistance to savage occupation of the Zionist regime and mobilizing all political apparatus in the region to thwart atrocities of the occupation regime are Iran’s top priorities, he said.

Referring to continued defeats and international isolation of the Zionists, he said that the people in the region are more vigilant than before to thwart all conspiracies of the bullying powers which has led to growing support for the resistance movement.

He said that political support for the resistance movement of the Palestinians has gained momentum in the region and the entire international community.

Referring to the Islamic Republic's significant achievements in their talks with the G5+1, Bagheri said that the vigilant resistance of the nation to vindicate their legitimate nuclear rights would overcome the medieval thoughts which sought to dominate and monopolize science.

Dialog is the only option to resolve the regional and global disputes, Bagheri suggested.

The Syrian president, for his part, said that the solidarity of the Palestinian political parties is crucial to deal with policies and the inhuman measures of the Zionist occupiers.

Bagheri and his entourage arrived in Damascus on Saturday night to confer with Syrian officials on issues of mutual interests and the regional developments.

Bagheri also conferred with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on ways to expand mutual relations as well as regional and international developments./end
