Thailand’s Commerce Ministry nods for palm oil price hike

BANGKOK, Dec 27 (TNA) - Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has given the green light for a gradual rise of palm oil prices on the domestic market in accordance with increasing prices of raw materials.
Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai said her ministry has heeded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's suggestion that domestic prices of palm oil, fertilizers, milk products and students' uniforms should be raised in line with their rising raw materials prices.
Pornthiva insisted the domestic prices of palm oil will be gradually increased to ease consumers' burden on rising costs of living, and that her ministry's panel tasked with reviewing costs of consumer goods will look into real costs of production of other products before proposing a new price hike of selected products to authorities concerned.
The commerce minister revealed that her ministry's Department of Internal Trade has sought cooperation from local large-scale palm oil producers for their sufficient supply of palm oil to all areas across the country as of December 28, warning that those who fail to cooperate will, otherwise, face legal action for hoarding of the product.
