Iran to pursue case of nationals who drowned in Australian coasts

Tehran, Dec 27, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said here on Sunday that Iran will follow up the case of Iranian nationals who drowned when a boat capsized in Australian coasts.

Mehmanparast told reporters that the Foreign Ministry considers itself duty bound to look into affairs of Iranian nationals.

He said the Ministry will probe the issue through diplomatic channels and based on the 1963 Vienna consular rights convention and other international documents.

He added that the Iranian Embassy in Australia too is in contact with the country's Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Immigration and is ready to receive necessary information in this regard./end
