Official: Iran expects Russia to take decision upon common interests

Tehran, Dec 26, IRNA – Head of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis said Iranians expect that Russian officials take decisions upon common interests in different fields of mutual ties.

According to the report of Majlis International Affairs and Protocol Office, Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with Head of Russian Federal Agency for Fight against Drugs Victor Ivanov here on Saturday afternoon.

He added that Russian officials, by taking decisions upon common interests of both nations, can prevent negative effects of certain countries on Iran-Russia relations.

The Majlis deputy said that the two countries have wide capacities for cooperation in different fields and many of these opportunities have not been practically used so far.

Regional cooperation, especially in the field of fight against drugs, is among important ground for interaction between the two countries upon common interests, he added.

The visiting Russian official, for his part, underlined importance of expansion of ties with Iran in different fields and added that Russia intends to develop and expand relations with Iran.

He said cooperation in campaign against drugs is among important issues in bilateral work and stressed that Iran’s measures in this field are very important and effective.

Ivanov continued that certain western countries in fight against drugs are not sincere and are using the issue as a pretext to be present in the region.

Referring to increased production of drugs in Afghanistan after presence of alien forces there, the Russian official said that policies of these forces have had no results./end
