Thai Health Ministry prepared for New Year travelling

BANGKOK, Dec 25 (TNA) - Thai Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said on Saturday (Dec 25) that his ministry has set up a hotline, as well as some 100 ambulances, boats and helicopters nationwide to help New Year revelers who may be injured in accidents, as a large number of holidaymakers are leaving Bangkok for the upcountry to celebrate the upcoming New Year festival.
Expressing his concerns for the travellers during the so-called seven high-risk New Year’s holidays--from December 29, 2010 to January 4, 2011, Jurin revealed that his ministry has prepared medical personnel, neccesary medicines and the hotline number 1669, insisting that ambulances should arrive at the scene of an accident within 10 minutes.
More than 300 people were killed in road accidents nationwide during last year’s New Year holidays. Drivers are mostly behind car accidents.
The public health minister urged local motorcyclists to always wear helmets and car drivers to wear safety belts, suggesting that they should also not drink alcohol before or while driving and refrain from speeding as well.(TNA)
