Cash circulation during New Year 2011 in Thailand to up 10.5%

BANGKOK, Dec 25 (TNA) - About a 89-billion-baht cash circulation is expected during the upcoming New Year festival in Thailand, a 10.5-per cent year-on-year increase in terms of all types of expenses.
According to University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce or UTCC's Economic and Business Forecasting Centre, some 56 per cent of those surveyed said they planned to spend their money on travel; so, the money circulation for domestic tourism during the New Year festive is expected around 40 billion baht and for tourism abroad around 24 billion baht.
For those the other half--who said they opted to stay at home during the New Year holiday--planned to spend for their New Year party celebrations at about 6.1 billion baht, merit-making at 7.2 billion baht, consumer goods at 9.2 billion baht, luxury items at 570 million baht and durable merchandises at 900 million baht.
On the New Year auspicious occasion, those surveyed said they wished His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej good health. They also wished for a harmony among Thais, a better national economy and safety in their lives and property.
Some 62 per cent of the respondents said they wanted to give their presents to Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, including flowers, cards, the national harmony and moral support. But about 6 per cent of them wanted to offer their gifts to ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra and about 5.5 per cent to Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban.
Most of the respondents said, however, that they were most concerned over road accidents, traffic problems, safety of accommodations, crime and price hikes for goods during the forthcoming New Year celebrations.(TNA)
