Thailand remains attractive haven for int'l tourist during New Year

BANGKOK, Dec 25 (TNA) - A number of international tourists say they enjoy travelling to Thailand at year-end, mostly attracted by Thai food and hospitality--with their top destinations including the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.

The Bangkok Poll, recently conducted by Bangkok University's Research Centre by questioning 663 foreign tourists on a random basis, found Thai food, hospitality, historical sites, shopping centres, culture and folk arts were the top five reasons attracting the international visitors to Thailand. Thai food got the highest vote from some 63.3 per cent of the respondents, followed by 47.1 per cent who selected Thai hospitality and 46.5 per cent who chose historic sites.

Some 51.8 per cent of the respondents said they would celebrate the New Year in Thailand. Among those opting to celebrate the New Year festival in Thailand, most of them named the northern resort Chiang Mai Province as their destination, followed by Samui Island in the southern resort Surat Thani, Khao San Road in Bangkok and the Central World shopping complex, a main countdown venue, also in the Thai capital.

Asked about their satisfaction in travelling to Bangkok, the average score of satisfaction was 7.62 marks out of 10, an increase by 0.04 per cent from a previous opinion survey conducted at the beginning of this year, and when asked about their confidence regarding security measures by Thai authorities, 79.9 per cent said they felt confident.(TNA)
