Barbecue explodes, injuring Melbourne man

A Melbourne man is in hospital after his barbecue exploded while he was cooking his
Christmas lunch.
The accident happened just after midday at Macedon Street, Hoppers Crossing, in
Melbourne's southwest.
Country Fire Association spokesman Ken Kayler-Thomson said the man used an
accelerant to get the fire started and it blew up, causing second- and third-degree
burns to his face, arms and legs.
e said people using barbecues during the holiday period should make sure their
equipment is in safe working order and follow the instructions.
Ray Rowe from Ambulance Victoria said the man was taken to The Alfred hospital in a
stable condition.
"It's an all too common event at this time of year, and people should be extremely
careful because it can cause serious injury," he said.
