Nizhny Novgorod, Chinese firms to jointly design and build NPP.

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, December 23 (Itar-Tass) - The Nizhny Novgorod
engineering company Atomenergoproekt and China's biggest NPP building and
assembly company CNI 23 intend to cooperate in designing and building
nuclear power stations on orders from various countries.
A delegation of the Chinese company visited on Thursday laboratories
of Atomenergoproekt, where delegation members inspected the work of
designers, working in innovative 6D-technology.
"Russia has very high design technologies; the design of nuclear
stations is highly appraised in the world; there are also great
possibilities in manufacturing equipment for nuclear plants. China has
great possibilities in building these projects, competitive in the world
market. Taking into account requirements of the world market for nuclear
energy facilities, we could cooperate in this sphere," said board chairman
and managing director of CNI 23 Board chairman and general manager: Dong
Yuchuan, leading the delegation of Chinese specialists.
According to the director, on visiting the laboratories of the Nizhny
Novgorod engineering company, Chinese specialists saw that possibilities
of designing nuclear plants here are very high. "Cooperation of our two
companies will help us to be very competitive in the world market,"
emphasised the head of the Chinese company.
He noted that China is now building a VVER reactor at the Tianwan
nuclear power station with assistance from the Rosatom Corporation. "It is
a very successful project, and we are sure that this reactor has good
prospects in the world market," underlined Dong.
Around 50 power sets for nuclear stations are now under construction
in the world; half of them are in China. "Our colleagues from the CNI 23
Company are building 20 power units simultaneously. Incidentally, they are
building them according to our design," said Atomenergoproekt director
Valery Limarenko.
"Since China praises the project of building the VVER set, it is
probable that we shall build this standard reactor serially along with
Chinese partners."
Atomenergoproekt is an enterprise of the Rosatom Corporation, one of
four engineering companies in the Russian nuclear industry. It renders
services on designing and building nuclear power plants and power units on
a turnkey basis.
The CNI 23 Building Company, founded in 1958, is China's biggest
corporation, executing all-inclusive contracts in the nuclear industry. It
participated in all military nuclear projects, the nuclear power industry
and in nuclear research in the Chinese territory.
