WB to set up $ 360 million water project in Yemen
SANA'A, Aug 09 (Saba) - The World Bank WB is planning to set up a $
360 million water project that will focus on water issues in Yemen,
a source at the bank office in Sana'a noted.
Naji Abu Hatim was quoted by the state-run 26sep.net as saying the
project would be financed by the World Bank which will pay $ 90
million of the total cost of the project, however, the rest sum
would be provided by British, Dutch and German donors.
Abu Hatim also said the bank is sponsoring five water projects in
the country including safe water, irrigation, basins and water
rationalization projects at a cost of $ 290 million.
Some of these projects are designed to help farmers have modern
irrigation systems and utilizing water properly.
Abu Hatim's comments came at the participation in the World Expo
2008 Exhibition being held in Saragossa, Spain. The exhibition is
dedicated to water and sustainable development. Water issues have
recently become most vital for world countries.
