Soldier remains in serious condition
An Australian soldier wounded during a foot patrol in Afghanistan remains in a
serious condition in a German hospital.
The unnamed soldier from the Mentoring Task Force (MTF-2) suffered serious blast and
fragmentation wounds when an IED explosive device exploded on Sunday.
The soldier was flown to a NATO hospital in Germany, where he remained in a serious
condition, the defence department said on Friday.
The unnamed soldier was one of two MTF-2 members hurt in separate IED blasts in the
Baluchi Valley region of Oruzgan province on Sunday.
The second MTF-2 soldier suffered superficial injuries.
Since Australia started operations in Afghanistan, 162 soldiers have been wounded
and 21 killed, including 10 this year.
