Japan`s FM concerned over post-election riots in Belarus.
TOKYO, December 21 (Itar-Tass) - Japan's Foreign Ministry has
expressed deep concerns over the post-election riots in Belarus, a
ministry official told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
"We are deeply concerned that during riots organized after Sunday's
vote in Belarus there were clashes between rioters and police. As a
result, many people, including presidential candidates, were injured and
arrested," according to a statement.
Tokyo called on the Belarus authorities "to guarantee observance of
democratic principles" and "to further pursue the policy for cooperation
and dialogue with the world community."
Japan's Foreign Ministry noted that "the Belarussian side provided
assistance" to Japan's observers at the elections.
