Russian-Chinese drills aimed at counteracting new threats - FM.

BEIJING, December 21 (Itar-Tass) - Joint exercises of the Chinese and
Russian armed forces are aimed at counteracting new challenges and
threats, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said in her
comments on the journalists' question on possible joint drills in the Sea
of Japan in 2011.
"Of late China and Russia expand multilateral and mutually
advantageous cooperation between the two countries' armies to effectively
counteract new challenges and threats and to constantly deepen strategic
partnership relations," the diplomat said.
"The armies of China and Russia have repeatedly held joint drills on a
bilateral basis as well as within the framework of the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization," she said.
Such drills "contribute to sustaining peace and stability in the
region and the world," Jiang Yu said.
