Medvedev meets with Indian vice- president.
NEW DELHI, December 21 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev, on an official visit in India, met with Indian Vice- President Hamid Ansari.
Ansari, who is also the chairman of the upper house of Indian
parliament, Rajya Sabha, is vice-president since 2007. Their conversation
was held in the Taj Palace Hotel where the president is staying.
Earlier in the day, the Russian president met with Sushma Swaraj, the
leader of the opposition, representative of the Indian People's Party
(Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP). In the afternoon Medvedev held negotiations
with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and was present at the signing of the
package of intergovernmental documents.
Medvedev began his visit in India on Tuesday. The president will visit
on Wednesday the city of Agra, where Taj Mahal, one of the world's most
famous monuments, is situated. He will also visit India's main business
city, Mumbai. In November 2008 the city was subjected to an unprecedented
terrorist attack, which claimed more than 150 lives.
