Jailed Thai trio back in Thailand

Si Sa Ket, Dec 21 (TNA) - Three Thai foragers--who were sentenced to a 18-month jail term each by a Cambodian court in August--returned to Thailand on Tuesday (Dec 21) following a royal pardon granted by the Cambodian King.
The three Thai men-Sanong Wongcharoen, Lim Puangphet and Ran Sapsri-were released by Phnom Penh on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cambodia this year following high-level talks between the Thai and Cambodian authorities.
The three Thai villagers were escorted into Thailand, amidst a cheering crowd of their families' members and local people, through a permanent border pass at Chong Sa-ngam in the northeastern Si Sa Ket Province's Phu-Singh District.
The trio, all are natives of adjacent Surin Province, thanked both Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen for their assistance.
The Thai trio was arrested by Cambodian border patrol police for allegedly spying and intruding onto the Cambodian territory after they had strayed across the border for forage.(TNA)
