Information center for atomic energy opening in Novosibirsk

NOVOSIBIRSK, December 21 (Itar-Tass) - An information center for
atomic energy opens in Novosibirsk Tuesday.
Sources at the Novosibirsk region government told reporters Monday the
center has been set up by the State Nuclear Power Corporation Rosatom as
part of its special-purpose program and its creation has rallied financial
support on the part of a number of nuclear industry enterprises located in
the region.
The largest of these enterprises, the Novosibirsk factory of chemical
concentrates, produces fuel for nuclear power plants.
The new information center's main objective will be to inform the
public at large on the issues of radiation safety, to promote the
knowledge of nuclear science and technologies among the students of
general schools, and to orient them towards enrollment for technical
colleges and educational centers training the personnel for nuclear plants.
The Novosibirsk center will function as a multimedia movie house
combining the 3D panoramic projection, computer graphics, animation,
stereo sound, interactive consoles, and personal monitors.
The basic presentation format is a 45-minutes-long virtual show titled
"The World of Atomic Energy."
The target audience of the center is children and adolescents in the
age bracket of 8 to 18 years old but shows for the grownup audiences will
also be organized.
All visits to the center will be free of charge.
At this moment, there are no nuclear power plants in the parts of
Russia to the east of the Ural Mountains but preparations for building a
nuclear plant are underway in the town of Seversk, Tomsk region, some 300
kilometers away from Novosibirsk.
The information center that opens in Novosibirsk will be the eighth of
its kind in Russia. Similar centers have been opened in Tomsk, Voronezh,
Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Murmansk, Kaliningrad, and Nizhny Novgorod.
