Saudi Innovation Spotlighted at Leeds
LEEDS, U.K., August 09, SPA -- The second Saudi International
Innovation Conference (SIIC) was held recently at Leeds University,
where Saudis studying in the United Kingdom met with decision-makers,
businessmen and scholars.
Held under the auspices of Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf, Saudi
ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and sponsored by King
Saud University and Saudi Aramco, the conference covered applied
science, engineering, humanities and information and communication
technology.
At the second Saudi International Innovation Conference, Saudi
Aramco-sponsored students met with Saudi researchers to discuss ideas
for innovation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and how they could
contribute. The two-day conference was based on debates,
presentations and training workshops.
Two debates, “Innovation in Saudi Arabia, Facts and Hopes†and “The Role of Universities in Creating a Sustainable Knowledge-Based Economy,†took place on the first day.
Misfir A. AzZahrani, manager of the Reservoir Characterization
Department, in his presentation “Saudi Aramco: People and Technologyâ€
highlighted Saudi Aramco’s experience in unlocking employees’ talents
to help create a knowledge-based society.
The second day included more debates, two training workshops and 56 oral presentations delivered by Saudi researchers from all over the world, according to a report carried by Saudi Aramco website.
Out of more than 200 abstracts for papers and posters received since December 2007, about 80 full papers were added to the conference proceedings and published.
Saudi Aramco sponsors more than 1,750 undergraduate and graduate
students in top universities worldwide.
