RBA appoints new assistant governor

The central bank has appointed its first female assistant governor, who will oversee
the area of currency.
Michele Bullock will be responsible for the distribution, quality and security of
Australian banknotes.
A Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) spokesman said Ms Bullock was the first woman to
reach assistant governor position.
She is now one of six assistant governors at the bank.
"The position is responsible for the banknote issue function, including the
distribution, quality and security of Australian banknotes, and the conduct of
related research and analysis," an RBA statement said.
As part of her new role, Ms Bullock will take up the chair of Note Printing
Australia Ltd.
With more than 25 years of central banking experience, Ms Bullock holds a Masters of
Science (Economics) degree from the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor of
Economics (Hons) degree from the University of New England.
Ms Bullock replaces Bob Rankin, who has become the central bank's chief
representative in Europe.
Another prominent woman at the bank, Jillian Broadbent, became a board member in May
1998.
