Russian Prez to arrive in N. Delhi Monday night

New Delhi, Dec 20, IRNA – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is arriving in New Delhi on Monday night on a two-day official visit to India.
He will be accompanied by high level delegation including several ministers and a strong business delegation.
On Tuesday Medvedev will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on a number of regional and global issues. The issue of terrorism and the security situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, amongst others, are likely to figure in the discussions, Vishnu Prakash, Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs told reporters in New Delhi.
After which both sides are likely to sign the agreements in the areas of space, economic and defence sectors.
This would be President Medvedev’s and Manmohan Singh’s third standalone summit meeting, and overall the 11th annual summit meeting.
External Affairs Minister, S.M. Krishna will call on the visiting President on Tuesday. There will be calls on him by Leader of Opposition Ms. Sushma Swaraj, the Vice-President of India, Hamid Ansari, Chairperson of UPA Ms. Sonia Gandhi.
Medvedev will also call on his Indian counterpart, Ms. Pratibha Devesingh Patil who would be hosting a banquet in his honor.
On Wednesday, 22nd December 2010, President Medvedev will depart for Agra and there onto Mumbai where he will visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powai, and also the Film City. Later in the evening, on Wednesday, he will return for Moscow.
Manmohan Singh had visited Moscow for the 10th India-Russia Summit in December 2009. At his invitation, Prime Minister Putin had visited India in March this year.
Bilateral trade between India and Russia was close to US$7.5b in 2009 and has registered a growth rate of 24 percent in the first seven months of this year.
India and Russia are both members of G20. Both the countries work closely bilaterally as well as through BRIC to push for reforms of the international financial system./end
