IRNA chief: Foreign ministry needs to undergo drastic changes

Yassoj, Dec 19, IRNA – Presidential Advisor for Media Affairs and IRNA Chief Ali Akbar Javanfekr said on Saturday that dismissal of former foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki implies that the ministry requires drastic changes in its mission.
Speaking at a question and answer round-table with a group of people in Gachsaran, he said the foreign ministry had failed to make a breakthrough in the country’s foreign policy and all its achievements were due to the initiative of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his active presence in global developments.
Mottaki was obliged to carry out his duties which had been defined by the President and the government but he failed to do so, he said.
Mottaki had been informed of the need for such changes prior to his visit to Senegal, Javanfekr said.
Failed policies under Mottaki’s tenure is the reason for such change, he said.
He expressed the hope the ministry would materialize the goals set by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his government./end
