.Three suspects in Dec 15 attempted murder arrested in Moscow.
MOSCOW, December 18 (Itar-Tass) -- In Moscow, police have arrested
three suspects in an attempted murder of a young man, which took place at
the metro station Park Kultury on December 15, Investigations Committee
spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Friday.
"At the request of the investigating authorities of the Investigations
Committee's Moscow office a court ruled that three suspects in an
attempted murder of a young man and disorderly conduct at the metro
station Park Kultury (the incident occurred on December 15) - Muslim
Gabibov, born 1989, Arthur Akhmedov, born 1989 and Alfred Abdulkadyrov,
born in 1990, be remanded in custody," Markin said.
According to investigators, the suspects attacked and beat up a young
man without any motive.
"One of the attackers deliberately fired a traumatic handgun at the
victim's head to. The attacked suffered multiple injuries of varying
severity," said Markin.
.Russian military's visit to US fruitful - ground forces commander.
WASHINGTON, December 18 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian military delegation'
s working visit to the United States ending on Saturday was "fruitful,"
its chief, Ground Forces Commander Col. Gen. Alexander Postnikov told
Itar-Tass in an interview.
"We were invited by the Chief of Staff of the US Army, General George
Casey," Postnikov said. "I must say that for a sufficiently long period of
time, chiefs of Russia's ground forces have not paid any visits to the US
and there has not been such direct contact yet."
"Therefore, we have set to ourselves the goal to develop the
relationship between the armies of the two countries in general and land
forces in particular, to review and analyze the experience of building and
reforming the U.S. Army," he continued. "Over the past ten years they have
changed a lot in the control structure and the organizational structure of
their units. It was important for me to see and to analyze and study
changes in the training of troops."
During the visit, General Postnikov visited the Pentagon, military
academies and the training center for officers, sergeants and junior
specialists at Fort Benning (Georgia), as well as the first Armored
Division at Fort Hood (Texas), the Army's Training and Doctrine Command in
Monroe (Virginia) and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
According to General Postnikov, "we have not achieved all of the goals
that I, as head of the delegation, set to ourselves for this visit, which
began last Monday, but basically, let us assume that we had an answer to
each of our questions."
"We must do credit to the American side and, above all, General Casey.
We were given an opportunity to see everything with our own eyes.
Everything that we asked to show us has been shown without any
restriction," he said.
"I'm at least satisfied with the work done here," General Postnikov
said. "I believe that it will not remain without a trace ... We met
General Casey. We had never met before, but have expressed the mutual
initiative to establish a personal relationship in various ways, including
the telephone. We shall exchange e-mail addresses. I believe that in any
case this will be to our benefit. "
As General Postnikov said, "the U.S. side suggested that we work on
those joint activities that may be effective in the future."
"We're doing that," he said. "I do not exclude that there will be
included joint exercises, although this particular issue was not touched
upon during the current visit. Joint exercises should be planned at the
level of the General Staff. All that relates to the use of troops is the
prerogative of the General Staff ... We have discussed such a topic as
exchanges of delegations. We shall study the proposal of the American side
for holding joint meetings at level of chiefs of staff . I do not see
anything wrong about this. That there has been a contact at the level of
ground forces' commands is just the first step, and I hope that there will
be more."
.Russia, US may exchange experience in training sergeants.
WASHINGTON, December 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia and the US can establish
exchanges of experience in training non-commissioned officers in the
future, the commander of Russia's ground forces, Col. Gen. Alexander
Postnikov told Itar-Tass in an interview. His delegation is ending its
working visit to the U.S. on Saturday.
"We have been to bases where troops are trained," General Postnikov
said. "We studied closely the system of training sergeants and analyzed
the role sergeants in the U.S. Army in general and in each military
structure in particular. I believe it was a positive experience. And if we
are to discuss who is the foundation of the U.S. Army, I can say I have no
doubt about that - it is really the sergeant."
General Postnikov said "we shall see what positive aspects of training
sergeants and enlisted personnel in the United States we might borrow."
"We do not exclude exchanges of sergeants," he speculated. "I will
make this proposal to the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. We would
like to see in action what the system of training sergeants really looks
like. There was some experience of the sort in the past, but it did not go
any further. At a certain point delegates from our armed forces - it was
quite a long time ago - took training courses at a U.S. army training
center in Germany. I believe that this trend should be revived."
The Russian military delegation under the ground forces commander
arrived in the United States last Sunday at the invitation of the Chief of
Staff of the US Army Gen. George Casey.
