Thailand to organise roadshow in South Asia

BANGKOK, Dec18 (TNA) - Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot will lead representatives of the Thai public and private sectors for a roadshow in South Asia to promote Thai products next week.
Alongkorn said he is scheduled to head the Thai delegation for the national trade mission in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka from December 19-23--during which relations in trade, investment and other areas between Thailand and the South Asian nations will also be strengthened. Thailand has sealed free trade agreements or FTAs with the three countries and has expected that trade with the southern Asian economies will be further expanding.
Alongkorn noted that firm business ties will also lead to the integration of transport among Thailand, India, Bangladesh and even Myanmar, and that the three countries--with combined population of about one billion--should become gateways for Thai products in the region.
Two-way trade between Thailand and South Asia stood over 7.6 billion US dollars in the first 10 months of this year, a 32 per cent year-on-year increase, with the Thai economy gaining a trade surplus of over three billion US dollars, as Thai exports to the region exceeded 5.6 billion US dollars; while imports amounted to over 2.5 billion US dollars.
Thailand's trade with South Asia is foreseen to exceed 8 billion US dollars next year, as Alongkorn said Thailand plans to boost trade with Bangladesh to one billion US dollars, with India to more than 6 billion US dollars and with Sri Lanka to over 500 million US dollars.(TNA)
