Visa-free entry: New Year’s Gift for Thais and Cambodians

BANGKOK,Dec 16 (TNA) Thailand and Cambodia mark 60 years of bilateral relations as a visa-exemption agreement went into effect Thursday (Dec16), allowing 14 days visa-free entry to passport holders as New Year celebrations draw near.
Sanit Naksuksi, Governor of Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province, together with Ung Oeun, Governor of Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province, jointly chaired the ceremony. Thais and Cambodians can now cross the border without having to apply for a visa, either at the embassy, or on arrival at the border check point.
The opening event was held at Khlong Luek Village border check point, near the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge in Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo .
Governor Sanit said both Thai and Cambodian officials favoured a visa-exemption agreement, as a new year’s gift for passport holders to allow an extended-stay across the border for up to 14 days.
Sanit said the new exemption is an indication of good relations between both countries and worked to improve inter-state tourism and trade.
Plans to build-on relations at the local level will also be carried out in Sa Kaeo in extending daily times for temporary crossing at Ta Phraya District; Nong Prue, and Ban Khao Din, Khlong Had.
The new temporary crossing schedule will change from 09.00 am - 04.00 pm to 09.00 am – 5.00 pm.(TNA)
