Leadership rumours dog Nelson in UK
Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson may have travelled 17,000km from home, but he's still facing leadership questions.
Speaking with the media after meeting in London with Bank of England Governor Mervyn
King, Dr Nelson was asked if he felt nervous being so far from home while leadership
tensions continued to roil in the Liberal Party.
"Absolutely not, no," Dr Nelson said.
"I have a job to do, I'm determined to do it and I will keep doing it.
"And I will lead the opposition through to the next election."
Dr Nelson this week departed on a 10-day tour of Britain and the United States,
while speculation about former treasurer Peter Costello's leadership aspirations
continued.
Dr Nelson reiterated he would be happy if Mr Costello decided to stay on in politics.
Asked if he agreed with former prime minister Paul Keating's assessment that Mr
Costello is a "clod-hopper", Dr Nelson said: "No, not at all".
