Convicted Thais in Cambodia can appeal within 30 days

BANGKOK,Dec 16(TNA)- Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that three Thai nationals, each sentenced to 18 –months’ jail by a Cambodian court for illegal entry, can file the case with the Cambodian Appeal Court within 30 days.

Thani Thongphakdi, Deputy Director General of the ministry's Department of Information, said even after a final court verdict, Thai authorities can seek a royal pardon for the three Thai nationals from the Cambodian King.

Thani said that the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has closely followed the case and has provided assistance to the three Thais.

The deputy foreign ministry spokesman acknowledged Thai consular officials at the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh had visited the three and had reported their strong stance to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok.

Three Thai villagers , identified as Sanong Wongcharoen, 37, Ling Pongphet, 39, and Laen Sapsri, all from Sangkha district in Thailand’s northeastern Surin province, have been arrested by Cambodian border patrol police while hunting and foraging for food in the forest in the Cambodian territory.(TNA)
