Thailand’s DSI asks Court to issue arrest warrants for ‘Red Shirt’ suspects

BANGKOK, Dec 16(TNA) - Interrogators of the Thai Department of Special Investigation (DSI) have asked the Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for 11 red shirt suspects who are key members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).
The suspects include Arisman Pongruangrong, former MP Suporn Atthawong and Adisorn Piengkate. The DSI has charged them with masterminding and supporting terrorist acts during the UDD’s red shirt protests from March to May this year.
The DSI submitted over 1,000 pages of its interrogation reports to the Criminal Court to support its request for the warrants.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva Thursday morning came across UDD leader Veera Musikapong, acting UDD chair Thida Thawornset and Wattana Muangsuk, a former key figure of the Thai Rak Thai Party, who were drinking tea at Bangkok’s Miracle Grand Hotel.
Abhisit was there to attend a session on media reform plans. He talked to the three for about 20 minutes.
Afterwards, Thida said she denied the prime minister’s previous remark that the UDD had rejected the Justice Ministry’s offer to bail out its supporters. She said her group accepted the help and considered it as beneficial.
Thida insisted from now on the UDD’s movements would comply with the law and be peaceful. It will call for equality in society and will no longer demand a House dissolution. She said anyone who insulted the royal institution or used violent means was not a member of the UDD.(TNA)
